Method

I am able to apply research methodologies to solve problems and enhance practice.

Rating: Meets

Description: As a student in GDIT 708 Technologies Management and Leadership I was directed to write a proposal for a scholarly conference.  This proposal included designing a study and presenting it complete with Abstract, Introduction, Statement of the Problem, Research Question(s), Hypothesis, Methodology, and Anticipated Findings.  The artifacts included here are the Power Point created to present the idea for discussion, the modified written proposal following the dialogue with Dr. Carbonara, and the IRB approval letter received to implement the study.

Reflection:  Learning how to design research studies has been very inspirational. Prior to the curriculum in this program, the only research I had participated in was informal, randomly initiating new pedagogy without clear focus.  Any insights I gained were shared with immediate colleagues, but never in a formal conference setting.  The effect of applying research methodologies during my doctoral coursework has been far reaching.  This proposal provided for the synthesis of knowledge I gained in design theory, Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge (TPACK), and cognitive processes.  The problem I chose to investigate concerned what I evidenced in my practice as an educator of pre-service teachers. Therefore, my students received the intervention described in this study.  They have been the focus of all of my research as they inspire me to gain more knowledge that ultimately is communicated to help them become better teachers. The emphasis on effective technology integration is now embedded in all of the courses I teach, and our department has focused resources toward the continuation of research in the area of technology integration and teacher preparation.  This has a ripple effect as these pre-service teachers share with the students they will have in their own classrooms. Furthermore, I have had the privilege to present at the following conferences: ISTE 2013, CIDER Virginia Tech 2013, Ohio Confederation of Teacher Education Organizations (OCTEO) 2014, SITE 2015 and ISTE 2015.
