Description:  The artifact included for this standard is a podcast created as a model for pre-service teachers to demonstrate appropriate application of technologies to improve  students' learning of content pedagogy.   The free resource PodOmatic was incorporated in this project to create an audio podcast that may be conveniently downloaded and accessed by a number of devices. The use of music as an intro and outro, and sound effects throughout enhance the quality of the presentation.  The opening includes relevant information regarding the purpose of the podcast and identifies the speaker. The script is focused, concise, and engages the listener providing motivation for a young reader to engage in the highlighted text. This model was created in a technology elective course I completed with the utilization of the audio from a digital story created in Foundations of Instructional Technology.

Reflection:  Content pedagogy for the instruction of Child and Adolescent Literature includes the development of knowledge and skills necessary for motivating young readers.  My students, pre-service teachers, develop an understanding and appreciation for noteworthy literature and resources. They are asked to demonstrate motivational and interpretive activities to help make connections with literature for children and young adults.  In order to scaffold their learning, I  created an example of a podcast that could be used with young learners to motivate and encourage the reading of one particular noteworthy text, Skippyjon Jones.  One thought that continues to motivate me to pursue my own learning of content pedagogy is that teachers tend to teach the way they were taught (Lee, 2008). The reality of this is evidenced every time my students describe their own teacher-centered, prior experiences as possible pedagogical solutions for their future classrooms.  It is quickly understood that this generation of teachers needs opportunities to experience new pedagogy. Providing multiple occasions for practice of not only using technology, but also teaching with technology is one means of doing this (Koehler & Mishra, 2008). An increase of teacher modeling then is necessary in this situation.  The more I am able to learn, the more I am able to give to my students. This podcast, the first I had ever created, is used in my Children's Lit class to promote altenative pedagogy with effective technology integration.
