Wiki Post

Description:   This artifact is a post created by David McGeehan and Susan Poyo to describe the steps we took to preserve ethical behavior in our work.  We created an infographic for faculty and students to use detailing the Copyright and Fair Use Guidelines for Teachers.  The infographic includes audio content performed by one of the creators as well as images and text.  Utilizing both modalities may appeal to a more diverse population of users.  The description includes references to the materials used, attributions, and the delivery platform.  The intentional inclusion of this description, although not entirely necessary given the context, was provided as a model of the awareness of the ethics and leadership that is indispensable in the field of education.

Reflection:   It is a great responsibility to be a professional in the field of education.  Not only are educators responsible for the instruction of their students, but also educators are responsible for the behavior they model.  Particularly, as a teacher leader it is imperative that I demonstrate appropriate moral principles and values in my work and with respect to the diversity of the learners I am privileged to work with.  Although I have experience teaching a variety of learners in different demographics, I am constantly learning more about how to teach each individual with the dignity they deserve.  Our cultural context has changed with the shift towards an increased use of technology.  Social media in particular is an area that is troublesome for our students.  Prior to GDIT 725, Leadership and Ethics, I was not aware of the magnitude of specific ethical problems in data mining, privacy, intellectual property rights, malware and hacking, and the like.  Being informed and aware is critical for educators if they are going to model and teach appropriate behavior and respect.  In this program, we have been held to a higher level of accountability in all assignments we construct and all instruction we execute.  This has armed me with the tools necessary for teaching proactively.  I am now able to provide my students with information to preserve and protect themselves as well as their digital footprint.
