Assessing/Evaluating
I am able to apply formal inquiry strategies in assessing and evaluating processes and resources for learning and performance.
Rating: Meets
Description: In the course, GDIT 709 Instructional Program Development, students are asked to develop a curricular plan that leads to the development of a program. This program is designed systematically utilizing the ADDIE model and includes learning activities to be completed within a particular time frame. While taking this course I had the opportunity to also invest my time in achieving the Quality Matters certification in applying the Quality Matters Rubric. This certification required many hours of study and completion of online modules for training in the design of an online course. The project for Instructional Program Development became an authentic representation of a performance assessment as I carefully assessed and evaluated the processes and resources to develop an online course worthy of Quality Matters excellence. The artifacts included are the completion certification as well as a link to the course project and screenshot of the first online course I developed.
Reflection: The process of applying formal inquiry strategies to design and develop the online course took a tremendous amount of focus as each piece of the project was developed, communicated in writing, and then ultimately formed into the course I taught in the summer of 2014. The timing of the Quality Matters certification was perfect as it helped me to evaluate and assess each step of the course creation, from the needs analysis to the evaluation. In the course information sheet, Dr. Martin indicates her aim is to connect our learning, our new knowledge, with the work we are currently doing. The experience I gained with this project allowed for the creation of my first, of what I hope to be many, online course as an authentic application of new knowledge. The online course, MTH 121 provided numerous learning opportunities for my students and me. Gaining the skills to create a document, which demonstrates a need, lays out a plan of action, and executes that first step has helped me with my communication in other arenas as well. I am learning a new confidence required for effective leadership in instructional technology.
