Online Management

Description: The process of proposing an online course for undergraduate students in the Education department involved the creation of a document that described goals, objectives, evaluation procedures, necessary physical infrastructure, and financial resources needed to effectively launch the curriculum.  The formal document was developed in GDIT 709, Instructional Program Development, by utilizing the ADDIE process.  Collaboration with the Director of Online Instruction was essential particularly for management of both infrastructure and financial resources.  Throughout the implementation of the course, management of the learners through interaction involving communication and feedback as well as management of the infrastructure was demonstrated. The artifacts include the entire proposal report with text and graphics to display systematic instructional design and project management skills.

Reflection:  I recall the professor explaining that this project should be as relevant as possible, that we would benefit from using the process to tackle a real world problem pertaining to our profession as well as our research.  Fortunately, I took her words to heart and identified a need within my situation that was germane and significant.  This project was extremely helpful to me professionally and academically.  The experience I gained through the process of collaborating with administrators to determine technology needs, financial resources and curriculum design provided essential knowledge and confidence, both of which have propelled me in my practice and my dissertation progress.  As junior faculty, the opportunity to be a leader in implementing online instruction has helped me to gain respect from administrators, colleagues and students as this course proposal has established itself as one that is sustainable and beneficial.
